    Distillations.

You are distillation of dust and ovum, of a longing, of a love. And at the same time, you were a soft and pink alembic where drops of water and handfuls of rice and lights, shadows and air and vegetables and meat have been decanting what you are. And you are pure and dirty. And the Florentine glass in which you fall, you turn it, when you write, into an alembic that distills from you the best of what you are not.

"Distillations" is a literary work by the renowned poet Juan Peña, born in Paradas, Seville, in 1961.

In 2013, "The same monotony" was published, an anthology that compiles poems from his previous books: "The difficult age" (Pre-texts, 1989), "Living with what's on" (Pre-texts, 1995), "Tired days" (Pre-texts, 1997), "The melancholic pleasures" (2006), and "Hard silk" (2011).

The poetry of Juan Peña is characterized by conveying a serene and joyful fullness, despite the harshness and pain that life presents us.

His muted, intimate, and cordial tone, imbued with mystery and suggestion, remains constant throughout all his books, distancing itself from grandiloquent and incomprehensible tones.

In "Distillations", the author presents us with a poetic metaphor of the human condition.

We are distillations of dust and ovum, of longings and loves.

At the same time, we are a mixture of purity and dirtiness.

Like a soft and rosy alembic, in which drops of water, handfuls of rice, lights, shadows, air, vegetables, and meat settle, we have been shaping our identity.

But when you write, you become a Florentine glass, an alembic that distills the best of yourself, that which you are not but desire to be.

In summary, "Distillations" is a poetic work that invites reflection on our essence and our capacity for transformation through writing.
