Smooth Cataplana with Base 6-7 diners (GAS-CERAMIC HOB)

Introducing the Cataplana Smooth with Base 6-7 Diners (GAS - CERAMIC HOB), a handcrafted Portuguese casserole designed especially for gas and ceramic hob.

Its curved base allows you to cook all kinds of food in a healthy way.

This cataplana is made in a traditional and artisanal way, with copper on the outside and a tin coating on the inside.

The cataplana is unique for its spherical shape, which allows you to steam large quantities of food, providing a healthy, natural and nutritious character to all dishes.

It consists of two spherical halves joined by hinges, which guarantees a hermetic seal for steaming food. Its closing system is similar to that of the lunch boxes of yesteryear and, in fact, cataplanas were precursors to the modern pressure cookers that we all know.

The preparation begins with a sauté of oil, garlic, peppers, vegetables and potatoes. Then the desired fish or meats are added, a splash of wine and some bay leaves or other herbs to give them that extra flavour that we like so much.

At this point, the cataplana is covered with its top piece and closed to finish the steam cooking of all the ingredients.

The main advantage of steam cooking is that the original aromas and flavours of the ingredients are preserved. Thanks to the hermetic seal of the cataplana, the stews cooked in it will enhance and squeeze out all their flavour.

The most famous cataplanas are those of fish or seafood with rice or potatoes, but they can also be prepared with meat, poultry, pasta, mushrooms or other fungi.

Once cooking is complete, the presentation of the dish is kept secret until the last moment. The whole, covered cataplana is brought to the table and is only opened to begin serving and eating.

Cooking with a cataplana is an art that is perfected over time and a ritual that is sure to capture the attention of all diners.
